The project to build PILGRIM III is moving along – now finished with full framing, installing aft half frames, all external ballast installed and starting the installation of internal ballast.
With this newsletter, we are introducing the various TASKS associated with building the ship. As the ship can be characterized as a collection of sticks sailing in formation, so can the overall TASK of building the ship be organized and characterized into a collection of sub-tasks that altogether form the PROCESS of building the ship.
The overall process of building the ship is composed of managing the three major elements: Operations, Labor and Materials. And for each of these three elements proper management requires careful planning and tracking of all apportionment of hours, costs, materials, regulatory and human resources applied to each individual task participating in the collective task of building our ship. For this purpose, we have instituted a rigorous numbering system of TASK numbers, MATERIALS codes, LABOR codes and OPERATIONS codes so that for each and every task we will have tracked the exact number of hours and by whom and at what cost, the exact amount of materials by characteristics, weight and cost and the ancillary costs and time of operations and overhead – all as applied by task and overall impact to the project. In this newsletter we are introducing by pictures the idea of the individual TASKS and their numbering system with the first three (the Horning Table, the Building Ways and the Backbone) of approximately fifty numbered individual TASKS and will fill out the rest of the TASKS as well as thoughts on MATERIALS and OPERATIONS in later newsletters.

We have started our Friday Talks series, scheduled for the second Friday of each month. The talks will cover various maritime subjects related to our ship and will be accompanied by a BBQ lunch provided by Mac and the shipyard. The lunch will start at 1300, lecture shortly thereafter. The first in the series covered history of the original PILGRIM’s builders and the area in which the ship was built. The next, 14 August, will cover Nautical Terminology.
All are welcome, but please let the main office know by 12 August if you plan to attend.
Per our project Benefactor’s requirements, we have started the educational program to integrate BITCOIN into all aspects of the production effort with a presentation to our crew by Alex Fedorak representing the FOUNDATION. Going forward, we are integrating the BITCOIN element into all discussions with suppliers, vendors and various support agencies.
And finally, through links to the PILGRIM III FOUNDATION websites, we will be providing a forum for discussion of topics related to BITCOIN and the fact that it is powering this whole project. We encourage your insight and experience to help us in our quest to more easily incorporate BITCOIN in the workings of the project and how it may be of mutual benefit to the project and all of the PILGRIM III Friends. The FOUNDATION website should be up and running by the time you get this newsletter, so give it a look over and comment back to us.
